4 weeks old!

Happy 4 weeks! The girls are 4 weeks old today! We are so grateful for their precious little lives. We can't believe how fast 4 weeks has gone by. We are also so grateful for the little baby steps forward they have made. Yesterday we got good news that the doctor was able to get 3 1/2 ml of spinal fluid out of Ashlyn. They did a follow up head ultrasound this morning and it showed no change with her ventricles. We were hoping that they had decreased in size, but are glad they have not gotten bigger. This means the spinal taps they are doing are working. We are hoping that they will continue to work and she won't have to have more invasive procedures on her brain to get the fluid out. Rachel has been restarted on the breast milk feeds. They are going to feed her a small amount continuously versus giving her 1 ml boluses every 3 hours. Also with Rachel, they tried to put in a new PICC line, but they were unsuccessful so she will have it surgically put in tomorrow. She needs this PICC line for the TPN. Haley is still on the oscillator vent. The doctor suspects she has pneumonia. She was already on one antibiotic. They started her on another. We are faithful she will be make it through this challenge. We are so amazed everyday how strong and resilient they are. Even with all the challenges they are facing, they continue to fight. Before we know it we will be celebrating their one year birthday. What a glorious day that will be.

  1. Thats wonderful. I can't believe it has been a month already! It has gone by so fast.

We are all still waiting to hear the babies birth story. I've never heard you guys say what happened as to why they were born so suddenly when all was well just hours before. Was there time to give the steroid injections? Was everything alright with you? I know my friend and I who have been following your story for some time now have been much concerned over your health and what happened that night.

Thoughts and prayers are with you, and all of the babies, here, and there. :)

  2. They are doing what is expected of babies their gestation. Take their challenges one day at a time and don't look too far ahead. "Baby steps" are the key here, for now anyway.

  3. Congratulations! I'm proud of you for enduring the first four weeks with so much strength and faith. The girls will continue to move forward: Baby steps, one day at a time. Maybe it is time for you to start preparing a cute bedroom for the girls at home. Soon they will need it! All my love and prayers are with you and the precious little ones!

  6. In response to the first comment, we have updated some of the older posts. I did go back to the August 5 post and updated it with the story of what happened and why the babies were delivered. Also I added pictures to some of the older posts. We have not added pictures of the babies due to the media. We promise to add pictures of them at some point. Thanks! Amanda

  12. sorry it has been a while since I've written, but my computer has been wacked out. It is so wonderful that the girls are doing well. I will pray that Haley will be ok and recover from the pnemonia. I have had pnemonia several times and i'm perfectly fine. Except I have Asthma but thats irrelevant cause I have had resperatory problems since I was born. I want you to know that you are always in my thoughts. Even today at my first 7th grade Volleyball game (which I won by the way.) I saw a very tiny baby and I thought about you and I wondered how your babies were doing. I know they will make it and it WILL be happy time to celebrate their first birthday.

with love from the 12 year old in Flower Mound,
    Lindsey Johnson
