Kayla's Ballet Recital 2017

Kayla had her second ever ballet recital on May 6th.  Her class danced to the song from Cinderella - Bibbity bobbity boo.  Her costume was so sparkly and so glittery.  Glitter got everywhere!  The costume was beautiful as well as my little ballerina.  She and her classmates did a great job on their dance.  So proud of Kayla!

These pictures below are of Kayla for the dress rehearsal.  I was so proud that I was able to do a bun in her hair (for the first time)!

My Parents 50th Wedding Anniversary and party

My parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 22nd.  My brother and I threw them a celebration party on that day (so thankful April 22 was on a Saturday).  We had the celebration in Austin at the UT golf club.  Lots of family and friends attended.  I was able to see my 3 Aunts at one time.  I hadn't gotten to see them in a very long time.  It was so nice to get together to celebrate my wonderful parents.  They deserved it!!!  I am so grateful for my parents.  I couldn't have asked for better parents and am so proud they have made it 50 years together.  Love them so much!

Here are some pictures of the celebration:

Brandon is 16 months old

So Brandon turned 16 months on April 14.  I am so behind on getting these monthly updates posted.  He is currently 17 months and I will do that update very soon.

At 16 months he weighed 21 lbs, 7 oz.

During his 16 month he did more crawling around (still army crawling, but faster) and found how to get into stuff.  He loves to get into my lower bathroom cabinet and pull stuff out from under there.  He started pulling up using the window sill (we have low window sills) to sit up and eventually he started to pull up onto his knees. At his 15 month update he was doing better at sitting up well, but he hasn't progressed more with that.  He only sits with using his hands to prop on.  He has a weak core (due to his spina bifida) and its going to take much longer than anticipated to for him to sit up all the way.

Brandon saw his urologist early April.  His doctor checked his kidneys with a nuclear scan and he had a renal ultrasound.  His kidney's look great and there doesn't appear to be any problems with not cathing Brandon.  Brandon will be seeing his urologist again in July to do a bladder function test.  We shall see if he will continue to not need cathing.  I am always nervous for these tests.  I have to admit it has been so nice not having to do any cathing, but with spina bifida that can change.

He has made progress with eating.  He decided he didn't want anymore baby food/baby cereal.  He tried and tasted lots of new regular foods during his 16 month.  He is still on the bottle, but he isn't drinking as much milk as he used to.  We started trying him on the honey bear cup with a straw.  He does ok but has some spillage as he drinks.

We finally saw the ENT in April.  Dr. Albright said his tonsils were big (size 3) and thought it was best to get a sleep study first before taking the tonsils out.  He wanted to rule out central sleep apnea.  Sleep study was scheduled for mid May.

Our little boy sure is growing up.  He is making progress and we are thankful.  Love this boy!!!

Easter 2017

So I am going to be catching up on this blog like usual.  I miss those days when I could write in my blog often.  Oh well a busy life can be good, but I do wish it could slow down some and I could go on vacation to get a break.

So here are the pictures we quickly took after church on Easter Sunday.  Our Easter was low key.  Rachel and Haley didn't get to do an Easter egg hunt because our neighborhood egg hunt was on a Sunday (we don't do stuff like that on Sunday's).  Kayla had a preschool egg hunt a couple of days before Easter.  I took pictures of that using my phone, but I just don't have the time to transfer those pics to my blog.  So Easter came and went fast, but most important I am thankful for my Savior and all that he sacrificed for me.

Bluebonnets and pictures 2017

We finally got out to get pictures in the bluebonnets on April 2.  We found a small spot on private property in Pearland, TX.  The owners of the property were ok with people taking pictures in the bluebonnets.  This year has been a terrible year with the bluebonnets.  There's just not as many spots/locations of bluebonnets this year.  I think the warmer winter in Houston didn't help at all.  So here are our pictures this year!  I'm glad I was able to get them.  I have gotten pictures of my kids in the bluebonnets for 6 years in a row!

Brandon is 15 months old

Brandon turned 15 months old on March 14 (Pie day)!  The big news for this month is he is sitting up almost on his own!  I got some pics of him sitting up at a local park.  These are the first pictures of him sitting up on his own.  He is still not 100% perfect at sitting up on his own, but he is slowly but surely getting there.  We are closer than we were.  So I am so happy about that!

Brandon had his 15 month check up.  It was discovered that Brandon has large tonsils (size 3).  We have to see the ENT to determine the next steps for this.  Brandon has been having sleep apnea episodes and some snoring so we figured that his tonsils were big. Rachel and Haley had to have their tonsils and adenoids taken out so I know Brandon will be going down that road too.  Poor boy!  Brandon also has seasonal allergies though it's not bothering him too much.

His 15 month stats at his check up:

Weight: 20 lbs, 10 oz (23 %ile)
Length: 29.5 inches (5 %ile)
Wt/Lt: 48 %ile
Head circumference: they took it but didn't write it down for me.

Brandon is a shorty like Haley and Kayla.  Rachel is my only average to tall kid.  As big as Brandon was when he was born, I thought for sure he was going to be more on the average/bigger/taller side, but I was wrong.  That's okay, he's great just as he is.  His smaller size is NOT stopping him from getting around.  He is crawling around everywhere!  He's still army crawling, but attempting to get up on all fours.

Brandon is eating well.  He likes his food!  He likes his baby cereal still as well as those Gerber puffs and other Gerber snacks.  He doesn't like the yogurt drops at all.  We are introducing more textures and foods.  He's doing well in this area!  We are trying to get him off the bottle, but Brandon is not interested in a sippy cup.  Will continue to work on this issue.

Brandon is still not talking or saying any words besides "ma, ma".  We are in the process of getting a speech therapist to come evaluate him to see if any intervention is needed.

He continues to sleep well at night though some nights he will cry a couple of times.  One of us will go in and comfort him and he will go back to sleep.  Most likely he wakes up due to his sleep apnea.

Brandon is a social little boy.  He likes to be talked to and he will wave Hi/bye when someone waves to him.  We are so blessed to have him in our family.

He kept looking at the grass trying to figure it out.  He doesn't like the grass.

Brandon is 14 months old

Brandon turned 14 months old on February 14th.  I am getting later and later on getting these posts written.  He is actually already 15 months so I will be attempting to get that update posted when I can.  I'm still going to try to do monthly updates for Brandon until he is 24 months.  I did this with Rachel, Haley and Kayla so going to try to get it done for Brandon as well.

Brandon weighed 20 lbs, 2 oz at 14 months.  He didn't gain any weight from 13 months to 14 months old.  He is using so much energy army crawling everywhere.  He sure is getting where he wants to go.  He still isn't sitting up on his own.  He is making progress though - slowly but surely.

Brandon is not really saying any new words.  He can say da da.  I have heard him say ma ma, but he has decided to not say it much anymore.

Brandon is eating well.  He still loves his baby cereals.  We are still doing baby foods, but slowly trying new table foods with more texture since Brandon tends to gag easily on chunky foods and he ends up vomiting.  So we are working on that.  Also Brandon loves his milk in his bottle.  Another challenge is getting him off the bottle.  He doesn't seem to care for the sippy cup.  We will just keep trying....

Brandon is a great sleeper still!  He goes to bed around 8:30 pm and sleeps through the night until about 8 am (+ or - 30 mins).

Brandon loves people!  He knows how to wave hi or bye.  He can be a flirt with his cute smile and big brown eyes.  He is precious sweet little boy.  So glad to have him in our family.

Here are his 14 month pictures.  I took them a day before Valentines's day.  He didn't want to smile much for pictures that day.

Valentine's Pictures, haircuts and lost teeth

So I was about a week late taking Valentine's pictures of the kids this year.  But none the less I got them done.  Also these pictures show Rachel's, Haley's and Kayla's new haircuts.  Rachel's hair was cut really short, but it looks so good on her!
Also both Rachel and Haley have lost their first teeth (see pics below).  Haley lost her first one on January 19th and Rachel lost her first one on February 12th.  As of the writing of this blog post, Rachel has lost 2 baby teeth.  Rachel and Haley are behind on loosing their baby teeth.  The dentist had told us that due to their extreme prematurity, they would lose their baby teeth later than normal.

Brandon's First Haircut

Just want to document this since my blog is my journal.  I'm glad I have this blog to document the goings on with all the kids in our family.  Brandon is our last baby and he is going through a lot of firsts that I want to document and to be able to look back on.  So with that said, Brandon got his first haircut back on January 18th.  He wasn't happy during the haircut but he looked so cute after it was done!

Before picture.  His hair was so long.
Not happy about the haircut

After picture.  Looks so much better

I took more after pictures of Brandon's new haircut a few days after.
