NICU Drama

Just returned home from the NICU, we practically live up there it seems. The girls seem to be having their ups and downs like so many of you have told us would happen. Little Ashlyn was all over the board tonight with her O2 saturation's. One minute she would be 100% the next she would dip down into the upper 30's to low 40's. The doctor finally had to give her a drug called pavulon, a drug used to sedate her because when she moves too much her O2 sats drop. Once the pavulon was administered she did just fine. Rachel seems to be doing much better today. They figured out what was causing her blood pressure to be low and her heart rate elevated. She has an infection from the first PICC line they put in. It clotted close to the heart and got infected, thus she will be on antibiotics for four to six weeks. Little Haley is definitely our eater. She just continues to move right along. She seems to be doing probably the best of them all at this present hour. As many of you know that seems to change every hour. Another day down and many more to go, but we are so thrilled that they continue to take micro steps forward. They have their moments when they take steps backwards, but all in all they are doing better. We are so grateful for these precious souls that God our Heavenly Father has entrusted to us. We love them and cherish them more than words can express. I can't wait for the day we are able to bring these beautiful little girls home. Thomas always seems to cry when he is with them. He and I have a very hard time leaving the NICU without them. Thomas and I will continue to move forward, and rely on the Lord for the health and protection of His beautiful girls that he has loaned to us while they are on this earth.

  1. The longest part of the NICU is waiting to go home. But once you are home with your precious baby girls you will know it was just a phase. There is the pregnancy, the birth, the NICU roller coaster, and the blessings of being a family in the comfort of your own home. I am praying that you will remain strong. Its a long battle your fighting but your doing an amazing job. Heavenly Father wouldn't give you more than you can handle even though it may fell too full at times.

  2. From the mom of a micropreemie, I so understand the rollercoaster of emotions you are going through. I want you guys to know that you are living example of the word "FAITHFUL". Through the loss of your three little ones and the NICU stay of your other three, you never forget to give him the praise. I'm not sure I was able to see my blessing while still in the midst of the storm. It was only after things calmed down I was able to do that. That is a testiment of your faith.

  4. Thank you for the update. I am always very anxious to know how the girls are doing. I never met you but I am so attached... Hopefully, the older the babies get, the less ups and downs you have to endure. Soon, Rachel and Ashlyn will get stable and become "eaters" like Haley. I am pleased to be a witness of your faith and testimony. God is with you and lots of supporters continue to pray. Your family is in my heart.

  5. I am always so grateful to read your updates and to see you being so strong and faithful for your little sweethearts. I am sure that it helps Thomas's folks to see these as they continue to serve their mission. I have had contact with them and I am also grateful for their faith and example. I know the Lord is blessing you every second as you continue on this unknown road and that He is surrounding you with His love and peace. We in Salt Lake continue to pray for all of you.
