Eye Opening!
Today's visit with the babies was good. We were so surprised and pleased with Ashlyn. As we were with her, she opened her eyes! It was such a special moment for us. It brought us much joy. We also found out that Haley opened her eyes last night, but when we saw her this evening she didn't have them open. I know that we will see them open soon. Rachel and Braden have not opened their eyes yet, but I'm sure that will come soon. They continue to hold their own and show some small improvements. It rotates daily on who is improving and who is having a small set back. We are always pleased with the improvements. We know there will be set backs, but we are confident they will continue to fight and pull through.

That's so wonderful!! :) Keep holding steady & strong.
ReplyDeleteI can remember when my boy opened his eyes for the first time - he did it pirate-style, with one eye open a few days before the other one. It had to have been so special to be there with Ashlyn when that happened. Glad to hear they're holding their own (and that you both are as well).

Yay for open eyes!
ReplyDeleteAnd how marvellous that you were there to witness her eye opening. Clever Ashlyn being able to gaze back at her devoted parents.
ReplyDeleteAs the parent of a special needs child, I have learned that you rejoice in every single teeny tiny first, achievement and milestone. I think parents of 'normal' kids miss out on so much as they don't have the anticipation that we 'special' parents have to go through. I know my daughter has taught me patience!
Thank for the updates. Our little family in Australia sends you daily prayers.
I have a preemie born at 23 weeks. He is now almost 2 years old and doing very well. He was in the NICU for 172 days and I know exactly what you are going through having to leave your babies everyday, it is so hard. Praying for you and your family.
ReplyDeleteAmanda & Thomas, great news. Glad you got to see those beautiful eyes of Ashyln. She just wanted to be the first to get a peak at her Mommy and Daddy. :) Sending daily prayers. God Bless, Sherri
ReplyDeleteYay for Mom and Dad! It must have been such a rewarding moment. You are all still in our prayers!

I'm so glad that you got to witness such a special and tender moment with one of your little girls. This is just one of many milestones that lies ahead. Your family will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers!
ReplyDeleteAmanda and Thomas, I am so happy to read your posting! It is very exciting to know that the babies are starting to open their eyes. What a special moment! I am sure that soon, Rachel and Braden will do the same. Lots of love and prayers for you and the precious fighters.
ReplyDeleteYour family is in my prayers. I don't know if you've heard of the wonderful website that the March of Dimes sponsors called Share your Story. It is a great support group for families that experience the NICU. We'd love to meet you there! www.shareyourstory.org

You all continue to be in my prayers. Thanks for taking time for updates.
ReplyDeleteYay! I found that one of the (few?) benefits of having a preemie is that you get to see their babyhood longer...and get to witness exciting milestones like this one. How special!
ReplyDeleteThat is so exciting that you were able to see her beautiful eyes. You are absoleutely right, there will be steps forward and steps back daily--you guys can push through!
ReplyDeleteSo wonderful! I am so happy for you. Hooray for Ashlyn! We keep sending our prayers above for you, and know that they are in God's hands. Thank you for taking the time to post updates - we love to hear of how they are doing. We know these are some of God's most precious souls, so we like to be in the know on how they are. :)
ReplyDeleteyou are in our thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteWe have an Ashlyn too- I had her in 1988. She was premature only weighing 2 pounds and 3 ounces. She was quite a fighter then and still is now. Ashlyn's are sweet and kind. Good luck with your Ashlyn.
