It has been an awesome day today because both girls yes both girls are finally off their ventilators. The doctor took both Haley and Rachel off the ventilator around 11:00 this morning and put them on a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure). This is a huge step forward for our little girls. The ventilator has served its purpose for the past twelve weeks and we are not sad to say goodbye to it. We hope they can continue to tolerate the CPAP, and not have to go back on the ventilator. They both have been extremely agitated by the CPAP. All they have known since birth was the ventilator and so they are going to have to get used to it. We hope they will adjust to the C-Pap and continue to progress. Words can't express how thrilled Thomas and I are with this great step forward today. Every little and big step forward is such a wonderful blessing. We truly have been blessed. How grateful we are!

awwwwwwwwwwww loved the little noises hayley was making!!! CUTE little girls!!!!
ReplyDeleteGlad to read that both of the girls are on CPAP. Our son hated it too, we called it his "snorkel." Thank you for keeping everyone posted on the girls' progress.
ReplyDeleteThey have both gotten so BIG! Rachel looks positively chubby! What an awesome step to get off the vent. Hope it continues to go well.
ReplyDeleteThis is terrific as it is the first step of many. Soon they will be on the nasal cannula, then on nothing! Congratulations!!!

Mom to triplets still in the NICU after 100 days...
This is wonderful news! My little guy hated CPAP too. Hopefully this will last a short time. Nasal cannula is SO much better and then of course, nothing is the best! Way to go girls!
ReplyDeleteBlessed indeed!!!! I am so happy to read this today!!!! I'm so glad your girls were both able to take this HUGE step forward! I sincerely hope that they are both able to stay on it and continue to move forward. It's always such a joy to see pictures and now videos too!! I'm am constantly in awe of your family and your faith in the Lord. This was just the uplifting news I needed to read to start my day! Keep up the good work girls!
ReplyDeletePraying for you always,
Christina McKinney
That is great news, I am so happy for you guys. They look so cute and chubby. We'll keep praying for them so things keep looking great.
ReplyDeleteAwesome news! I am sure they will get used to the C-Paps. My husband actually uses one for snoring! It was odd at first for him but he got used to it quick - so I am sure your little ones will, too!
ReplyDeleteYay! That is great news! The CPAP can be uncomfortable on the babies' faces since they are so used to the ventilator. After a couple weeks on the CPAP my Lily was simply ripping it off every chance she got. The bonus of that is that it helped her move to the cannula that much sooner since all she wanted was to be comfy!
ReplyDeleteBoth our boys were crazy for the first 24 hours on cpap...then they settled in. I was so worried they'd be that agitated for the entire time on cpap but they settled right in! Always praying for you guys...
ReplyDeleteAmanda & Thomas, this is such great news for your girls. You can sure see how far they have come. Love that little double chin on Rachel. Way to Go Girls, keep it up and you will be home before you know it. :) God Bless, Sherri
ReplyDeleteGreat news! Rachel and Haley are definitely getting there. This is a huge step and soon they will be on the canula. I'm impressed with their progress! The pictures and videos are precious! Thank you for sharing the great news with us! Love, Claudia
ReplyDeleteYEAH!! THIS IS SUCH GREAT NEWS!! My girls both hated the CPAP. The doctors always told us that it was great that they were strong enough to fight it! They told us that if they enjoyed the cpap hat then they would be worried. I'm so glad your baby girls are getting stronger. Before you know it they will be home! The best part of not having the vent anymore is that you can hear them cry. Big hug to you! I look forward to reading more posts about great news. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK LADIES!!
ReplyDeleteThose sweet little girls. They are such little troopers. So glad they are taking more steps forward. That is such great news! Love to you all.

oh i love that little double chin that Rachel has! Too cute!
ReplyDeleteThe fact that she is crying about it shows how robust she has become. They are going to be home before you know it.
ReplyDeleteYEAH!!!!! The video's are so sweet and shoe there cute little personalities!!
ReplyDeleteThey look so sweet with their little chubby legs and arms. We will continue to pray that there will only be CPAP and no more ventilators in their future.
WOOHOO what a great milestone!!! I hope both girls are able to tolerate the c-pap.
ReplyDeleteHurray for CPAP!!!
ReplyDeleteAlthough it's trading one not-fun equipment piece for a new one. Gotta love those little piggy noses and all the head gear :)
Not to mention the drool, drool, drool. Don't worry, the piggy nose won't be permanent. And it's such a big step for them to be doing all the breathing on their own. Now you can hear their little hoarse voices! I hope they are able to stay off those vents. And that they adjust to the cpap and eventually learn not to hate it so much.
Yay!!! What cute videos! Your baby girls are so beautiful, this is so awesome!!!
ReplyDeletehugs and prayers,

ReplyDeleteThis news is so awesome! I knew once they were letting you put clothes on the girls that things would only continue to get better with them. They are going to be home with you before you know it. Hope you are ready - you're going to be busy!! :)
ReplyDeleteWoo-hoo!! That's awesome! Keep it up, girls!
ReplyDeletefantastic !!! thats the best news ever !!
ReplyDelete:D
Such good news - they are getting used to lots of different things in their small world..they take it like the little troopers thatthey are. They are adorable and i'd love to just snuggle one of them - or both!
ReplyDeleteto tell the truth i don't like my CPAP either, but i'm at least getting quality sleep - not waking up 52 times an hour to remember to breathe.
they'll be on room air before you know it! Thanks for the great news.
love, Erma
