It was a Saturday so we had a small party for her with some of her good friends. We had pizza and cupcakes at our house then we took the girls to the movies by our house and they saw the movie "The Star". She had a great birthday! I can't believe she is 6 years old already. Why do kids have to grow up so fast!!??

At 6 years old she liked:
- My little pony
- Monster High dolls
- Barbie
- Watching movies
- Playing with friends. She loved going to play dates
- Ballet
- Painting her fingernails
- Spending time with her cousins that live 10 minutes away

Pictures from her party:
I really do want to keep up with this blog but it seems that I am busier than usual and have so much on my plate. I will keep updating the best I can. So I am going back to where I left off. I had started this post awhile ago and thought I would finish it. Back in December 2017 right before Kayla's birthday we got snow here in Houston! It wasn't a lot of snow at all, but it was snow none the less. Snow in Houston doesn't happen often. It seems to happen every 8 years or so. Then in January 2018 we had a couple of days that were icy and had some very light snow. Crazy winter weather for us this past winter. So here are a couple of pictures of our snow days this past winter.
In November he made good progress physically. His physical therapist worked more with him using the walker. He started taking some steps on his own while in the walker. Also during November he started talking a lot more. He added more words to his vocabulary. He was only still saying single words in November.
Brandon has been a social boy even at a young age, but around October/November he increased his social skills. While we would be out at stores shopping, he would say Hi and bye to almost everyone he saw. He will say hi to anyone. Even if he has never seen the person before. He makes people smile. He is just so cute.

For his 23 month photos, I snapped a few of him after we finished our family pictures. So here he is at 23 months.

Back in May 2017 I finally finished decorating Brandon's sports theme room. I took pictures of his room in November 2017, so I will add those pics here. I really enjoyed decorating his room. A change since we have 3 girls. His room was Kayla's room but when he was born we moved Kayla to the bigger guest room. His room is the smallest of all the bedrooms so it is packed! We have a full size bed in his room for him to transition to when he out grows the crib. The bed takes up so much room, but I was able to pack in a lot of stuff in his room despite the size and extra bed. We use the bed to change him. So it works!

So I got a comment regarding a question of why I decorated his room in sports theme when Brandon won't be able to play sports. Here is my answer: You DON'T have to participate in sports to like sports. I have always wanted to decorate a boys room in sports theme because my husband loves sports. We finally had Brandon and so my dream came true. He may not be able to play sports but we don't know that yet. There are sports like golf that he probably can play later in life. A lot of people like sports but don't play sports. Nothing wrong with decorating a kids room in sports theme. Its a boy room so I decorated it in a boy theme. I will let Brandon decorate his room however he likes when he is older and has an opinion about it.
We enjoyed the Halloween season by going to a pumpkin patch and then to our church trunk or treat. Kayla also participated in her Kindergarten character parade (last picture below).
The picture below is Kayla at her Kindergarten character parade. She was the character from the book A Rainbow of my Own. She wore her rainbow dress (Halloween costume in above pics) and red rain boots. She was suppose to wear a yellow rain hat but she didn't want to. You can tell in the picture she was being shy during the parade. Little stinker!
I am so behind but will continue this blog as best as I can. So the next post where I left off was Brandon turning 22 months old on October 14th. Since it has been such a long time since then, I don't remember all the new little things he was doing. I wish I would have kept up with that. I want to remember all the progress and new things he was doing. Well all I can remember was that he was continuing to make progress physically. He was working to pull up to stand and making strides on learning to take steps in his walker. He was still needing a lot of assistance to initiate taking a step.

As for talking he was saying more new words, I just don't remember what new words he learned.

On October 14th, he weighed 24 pounds

October is spina bifida month and on the 25th it was spina bifida and hydrocephalus day. I did a photo shoot of Brandon wearing a Superman costume (his Halloween costume) since he is my "super baby". I did a photo shoot back in October 2016 of Brandon wearing a superman cape for spina bifida month. Here are the October 2017 month pictures. I will be doing a superman photo shoot with Brandon for Spina Bifida month every October.
This luncheon was suppose to have happened on September 8th, but due to school starting late on September 7th, the luncheon was held on September 22nd. Kayla was so excited to have her Grandparents (my parents) there with her. Her other grandparents couldn't come due to being out of town.
Since this was a big milestone in his life, I set up some surprises for him. I took him to ifly. ifly is an indoor skydiving/wind tunnel place. When I purchased this for him I had NO intentions of doing it with him, but Thomas convinced me to try it out as well. I'm so glad I did! It was fun! Thomas soared into his forty's and he did it well! Here are some pictures of our adventure together.
My birthday was a week later on September 29. I turned 41. My birthday was low key this year, but Thomas surprised me with a one hour massage at my home. It was a relaxing one hour. Loved every minute of it!Amandahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17686734314850926180noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9145471442079731509.post-56831240224627765102017-10-17T19:51:00.001-05:002017-10-18T22:10:52.842-05:00Brandon is 21 months oldBrandon turned 21 months back on September 14th. He weighed 23 pounds, 6 oz. His length was 31.2 inches. Brandon is definitely a short petite boy. He is in the 25% ile for weight and 2% ile for length.

Again I am over a month late with this update. I can't remember all the little things he was doing but he did visit the spina bifida clinic and all looked good. He got his own little walker since he is working on standing and walking with his physical therapist. He also got fitted for new orthotics. We are still waiting for them to come in but he will be wearing kiddieGait orthotics. These will really help him with supporting his ankles and assist him to walk when he gets stronger. He is making progress physically and we are so excited for this progress. Brandon is really working at pulling up to stand. He is just having problems with getting his feet flat on the ground. He tends to pull up with his arms so he looks like he is standing on the tips of his toes. Also Brandon is doing so much better with sitting with his feet in front of him. Its been a long process with him learning to sit, but I think he has finally gotten it.

Brandon started saying new words and becoming more and more social. He is so friendly and loves to greet people. He is so much like his daddy - a social outgoing guy.

Brandon continues to sleep well at night. He is getting to that age when he knows its bed time and he gets upset because he wants to stay up and play. But he does love to be read to before bed and that helps with the bedtime process.

Brandon is such a sweet , mostly calm boy. He really only gets upset when he is hungry or tired. He is also such a funny little boy. He makes me smile all the time. His smile is a joy in our home. Love this little boy so much!
The girls were excited to start school as was I! Rachel and Haley were transferred to a different school this year. They are now attending Park Lakes Elementary. It is closer to our home, but I wasn't really happy with this change. They had attended Ridge Creek Elementary for the past 3 years and had learned the school and had set routines. Also a lot of teachers, staff and students knew Rachel and Haley. Humble school district for some reason decided to make changes and opened up more special education classes. So far it seems to be going good at Park Lakes Elementary. Rachel and Haley's teacher (Ms. Nelson) seems nice. Rachel and Haley are having to learn a new school and new routines, but seems to be going well so far.

My Kayla is in Kindergarten! I can't believe she is in full time school now. Kayla is attending at Fall Creek Elementary and she is loving it! Her teacher (Mrs. King) is great as well. We are so grateful she is at this school. Kayla has made friends already. She is my social butterfly.
On that day he weighed 22 pounds 10 oz.
Seeing that it has been over a month since he turned 20 months, I can't really remember all the little details that happened. I do know that he started saying a new word or two and continued to make progress physically. He continued to improve on his sitting and crawling as well as pulling up on his knees even more.
Brandon is a sweet boy who has such a fun personality. He loves people and is such a flirt. We sure love this boy and all the joy, laughter and smiles he brings to our family.

For his 20 month photo shoot he was just not having it. This is the best I could get.
So here is our blog post about how the hurricane affected us. Luckily we are good!! Safe and dry! We didn't get any flooding in our neighborhood or our home. We also didn't lose any power. We are so blessed and grateful for the location we live in (Humble - Northeast of Houston). We were scared and nervous through out the storm. It was nerve wracking not knowing if our area/neighborhood was going to flood or not. We survived and the girls did well through the storm. We are so heartbroken for all the devastation throughout Houston and other areas outside of Houston. It is estimated we got 30+ inches of rain in our area. Some parts of Houston got 50+ inches of rain. We ventured out yesterday and took a couple of pictures. Just north of us in Kingwood, people were flooded due to the rising water from the San Jacinto river. Lots of people were flooded and had to evacuate. There is just so much destruction. Thank goodness, today the sun is poking its head through the clouds a little and we are so glad to see it. Thanks for the concern. Much appreciated! We are well!
This post is so late but I wanted to go ahead and post these pictures because I want to remember her at this age. She is just growing up too fast.

Back when I took these pictures she was in a silly mood. So these pictures are full of sass, silliness and spunk. Love this girl!!!
Really time has flown by and they are growing up so fast. On their birthday we took them to a jumpy place called Jumpalooza and we had some cupcakes for them. Not really sure, but I don't think Rachel or Haley understood it was their birthday. None the less we celebrated them and remembered their siblings - Ashlyn, Dallin, Braden and Kaitlyn. We love and miss our precious angels. Happy Birthday to our miracle sextuplets!

Rachel and Haley had their 8 year old well child check so here are their stats:

Haley:
38 pounds
42 inches (3.5 feet)
BMI: 45%ile

Rachel:
54 pounds
51 inches (4.25 feet)
BMI: 38%ile

Rachel and Haley are healthy but of course have their disabilities that require on going therapy, special education and lots of watchful eyes and attention.

For this birthday post I'm going to write about what they CAN do and the things they like.

Haley:
- Haley can talk (as well as do some sign language). She is saying some words and is increasing the words she can say. She loves popcorn and has started saying it.
- Haley can understand what we tell her and she will follow what we tell her to do such as throw her trash away, go to the sink to get her hands washed, etc...
- Haley can get around fairly well in our house despite her very low vision. She does need assistance in unfamiliar places.
- Haley can hear well enough with her hearing aids and she loves music. She enjoys playing with her keyboard and any toy that plays music.
- Haley likes dogs and always enjoys going to her cousins house to see the dog. She can even say the dog's name.
- Haley loves to eat and loves junk food!
- Haley is very friendly and loves to be around people.
- Haley loves to make noise. We can always hear where Haley is at any given moment.
- Haley loves to tease and play. She gets herself into trouble at times as well.
- Haley is a very sweet loving little girl!

Rachel:
- Rachel can work the ipad better than me. She likes to take pictures with the ipad and watch kid youtube.
- Rachel likes to help do things/chores (with assistance) like wipe the table, hang wet clothes on hangers to dry, vacuum, wash dishes, etc.
- Rachel can do some sign language.
- Rachel loves to taste foods such as popcorn, pickles, cheetos. Just wish she would swallow food.
- Rachel can get her self dressed (with a little bit of assistance). She definitely knows how to get undressed.
- Rachel loves to cuddle in bed with daddy.
- Rachel can do hair. She is good at putting ponytails in her or her sisters hair.
- Rachel is very good at getting herself into trouble and typically breaks things easily (had to add as this is Rachel and a part of our daily lives).
- Rachel is a sweet girl and gives the best smiles.

We love our girls and just can't believe they are 8 years old already! I still remember the day the sextuplets were born and all the fear, anxiety and excitement. Looking back on that day I really didn't think we would end up with only 2 out of 6. I really thought that all 6 would live and grow up together, but that was not the plan. We are grateful to have Rachel and Haley and we will see our 4 angels again. I do look forward to that glorious day!

He weighed 22 lbs, 6oz. This is a slight decrease from his weight at 18 months old so I will have to keep a watch on that. Brandon is a petite little boy though. He is currently wearing size 12-18 month clothing and still in a size 3 diaper. He has been in that size for a long time. Brandon had a urologist appointment on July 7th where he had a renal ultrasound and a bladder test (VCUG). The ultrasound showed no kidney damage and a normal bladder. Also the bladder test showed no urine reflux into the kidneys as well as good bladder emptying. He did have some overactive bladder episodes during the test but the doctor was not concerned. The doctor actually talked to us about potty training! I didn't think that was possible with kids with spina bifida, but according to his doctor there are kids with spina bifida who are able to be potty trained. So it is a possibility that Brandon can be potty trained but we will have to wait till he matures more to know for sure. We are so blessed and so very thankful that he doesn't need to be cathed.

On July 18th, he had his tonsils and adenoids removed as well as ear tubes put in. He also had his tongue clipped for a possible very mild tongue tie. He had to stay overnight for one night at Texas Children's Hospital. Poor guy had a tough time with it and it took about 10 days for him to get back to his normal self. Removing those tonsils and adenoids have helped him tremendously! He doesn't snore while he sleeps and he doesn't sound like Darth Vader when he breaths. We are so glad that is done and over with!

Brandon is doing better at crawling. He is getting up on his hands and knees more often when he crawls. He is also getting better with sitting up. He can sit up because we have seen him do it, but he is always on the move and therefore he won't stay sitting. He's a busy boy! He has been "W" sitting and his PT is working on reducing that. We know its not the correct way for him to sit. Brandon prefers it because it gives him a wider base for support. As I always say with time he will get it and do it correctly with time.

He is getting PT, OT and speech therapy. He is taking his time with talking. He is now saying mamma, daddy (da-dee), bye, baby and ball. He is also still on the bottle, but I think I have found a good cup (take & toss sippy cup) that he will drink from and will try another cup to help the transition off that bottle.

He loves to look at pictures of babies and gets excited when he sees a baby. Brandon also loves to look at pictures of mommy and daddy. He just has to look at the pictures of Thomas and I that are hanging on our walls.

Brandon also loves to be read to. I read to him every night before he goes to bed. He is my sweet little boy and I love him so very much. He definitely completes our family.
He had a well child check on that day with his pediatrician Dr. Edralin.

18 month stats:

Wt: 22 lbs, 10 oz (25-50%ile)
Length: 30.5 inches (2-5%ile)
Wt/Lt: 50%ile
Head circumference: 48 cm (50-75%ile)

So the stats above show that Brandon is short and average weight. He is proportional for his length and weight. He's going to be short like his sisters Haley and Kayla. I have heard that kids with spina bifida tend to be shorter than average, but I'm not 100% sure about that. I do know that my husband's genetics tend to run on the shorter side so I think Brandon is on the shorter side due to his genetics.

All looked good when his pediatrician saw him at his 18 month appointment. Brandon was also seen by Dr. Fletcher (his neurosurgeon) on June 14th and he was pleased with Brandon's progress and abilities. Brandon's shunt has had NO problems since it was put in on December 21, 2015. We are so happy, thankful and blessed!

At 18 months Brandon started getting speech therapy twice a week to help with his speech. Brandon is still not talking a lot. He says mama, dada, baby and bye. Also speech therapy is going to help address getting him off the bottle and onto some kind of age appropriate cup. He has slightly weak lip muscle tone and just needs some help to get those lips strengthened. Brandon also started getting occupational therapy to help him get up to par for his age. Brandon is behind developmentally. He is approximately 12-14 months developmentally.

Brandon loves to eat! He is eating all kinds of regular table foods. He loves (his favorites) applesauce, yogurt and cheese. He is pretty willing to try new foods, but will let us know that he doesn't like something. He will just spit it out and not reach for it on his tray.

Brandon is still army crawling. He will get up on his hands to crawl but briefly and he doesn't do it often. He is still working on sitting up independently. At 15 months, I thought he had mastered it but he has not. He still sits using his hands to prop himself up. He is getting physical therapy 2 times per week.

Brandon sleeps well at night and always has since 7 weeks old. So grateful!!

Brandon has such a great little personality. He is a little flirt! He loves to interact with others by way of smiles and cute looks he gives. Brandon is such a sweet boy, but of course he can be a little stinker. He loves to get into stuff and gets so upset if I take away something that he's not suppose to have.

Brandon also loves babies! I read books to him before bed and he particularly likes the ones with pictures of babies. He will say baby when he sees a baby. Brandon loves his books as well. He really enjoys when I read to him.

Brandon's 18 month photo shoot didn't go so well. I had plans to take pictures of him in a little red wagon, but he didn't like it and cried. So I went with plan B and he still wouldn't cooperate much. These are the only five pictures I got out of the many I took. The little stinker!
They both had a good school year in their 2nd grade life skills class.

Here is a little update on both Haley & Rachel:

Haley - Haley is now talking!!! She is saying dog, outside, eat, more, ball and NO. I know she is saying a couple of other words, but I can't remember which ones as I am typing this. We are so proud of her. Haley gets speech therapy 2 times a week as well as occupational therapy. Haley is still working on potty training, which will continue to be a long road but I have faith that she will learn/understand how to use the potty correctly. It just takes a lot of time for my girls. Haley loves her hearing aids and wears them well. Haley loves dogs, but we don't plan to get one anytime soon. Haley has been recently diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder. She get anxious if her schedule gets changed or we go somewhere she is not familiar. Also noises (vacuum, mower, etc) make her anxious. She is blind and hard of hearing so that makes things worse for her. She is typically a happy loving sweet girl. She loves to be held, give hugs and gets concerned when her baby brother cries. She is almost 8 years old and still wears 5T clothing. She is our petite sweetie.

Haley 1st day and last day of school comparison

Rachel - Rachel continues to be our challenging girl!!! She is a sweet girl, but oh so stubborn and persistent. Rachel is still not talking despite having the cochlear implant. We think that Rachel does in fact have autism. Though she loves to be around people and loves to get into peoples stuff. Rachel doesn't have any boundaries which is a challenge when we are around others. Rachel is working on potty training as well, but she is fighting against it. So not sure when she will get it, but we continue to work on it with her. Rachel gets occupational therapy and physical therapy 2 times a week. Rachel wears AFO braces to help her walk better. She can walk without them, but she does tend to fall easily. She has right sided weakness. Rachel still relies on her g-tube for all her nutrition as she still won't swallow food. She loves to taste and chew food, but she continues to spit it out. I have NOT been able to find a therapist to help her learn to swallow food. I am loosing hope that she will ever eat normally. The therapist we have had just have not been able to help her. She has had the g-tube for so long now. Rachel has a hard time sleeping. She gets up at least once in the night. We have to give her medicine to help her sleep. Rachel is also on a behavior medicine to help control her behaviors. She tends to have outbursts and fits easily. Rachel is very challenging but she can be sweet and loving. She likes to play with her baby doll. She likes to play with my hair and put it into ponytails. She is a daddy's girl and she loves to snuggle with him. Rachel is an average sized almost 8 year old. She is skinny though.

Both Rachel and Haley are going to summer school this summer. They love school and the routine of school helps them in so many ways. The first day of 3rd grade will be on August 28th!

Rachel and Haley will turn 8 years old on August 4th!!! I can't believe my little girl is growing up and moving up to Kindergarten in August. She really enjoyed her 3 years of preschool at SPARK (free preschool program in our school district - Humble ISD). Kayla also had the opportunity to go to a private preschool the last 5 months of preschool. She loved it and was sad it was over. I have a preschool graduate!!!
I'm so beyond grateful for all my 10 children who made me a mother.

At 17 months, Brandon weighed 22 pounds.

At 17 months he continued to crawl around everywhere as well as get into everything! He progressed even more with getting up on those knees. Back in April Brandon got little SMO/AFO (ankle/leg) braces. He had been working with his PT with those and and did well at putting pressure on his feet and ankles to stand (with assistance). He isn't standing all by his self just yet, but the braces help him keep those legs sturdy to stand with assistance.

Brandon did have his sleep study on May 15. The results of that sleep study showed he did have obstructive sleep apnea and will have to have his tonsils and adenoids removed on July 18. He will also be getting tubes put in his ears since he is getting more ear infections. He got another ear infection on May 6th.

Since I am so behind on getting this update up, I can't remember every little thing he did during his 17th month, but Brandon continued to be a good sleeper despite the sleep apnea. As for his eating, well he loves to eat and eating all kinds of regular table foods. He is still using the bottle to drink, but we have been working on a straw cup for water.

He is our lovable sweet little boy!

Her class danced to the song from Cinderella - Bibbity bobbity boo. Her costume was so sparkly and so glittery. Glitter got everywhere! The costume was beautiful as well as my little ballerina. She and her classmates did a great job on their dance. So proud of Kayla!
My brother and I threw them a celebration party on that day (so thankful April 22 was on a Saturday). We had the celebration in Austin at the UT golf club. Lots of family and friends attended. I was able to see my 3 Aunts at one time. I hadn't gotten to see them in a very long time. It was so nice to get together to celebrate my wonderful parents. They deserved it!!! I am so grateful for my parents. I couldn't have asked for better parents and am so proud they have made it 50 years together. Love them so much!
I am so behind on getting these monthly updates posted. He is currently 17 months and I will do that update very soon.

At 16 months he weighed 21 lbs, 7 oz.

During his 16 month he did more crawling around (still army crawling, but faster) and found how to get into stuff. He loves to get into my lower bathroom cabinet and pull stuff out from under there. He started pulling up using the window sill (we have low window sills) to sit up and eventually he started to pull up onto his knees. At his 15 month update he was doing better at sitting up well, but he hasn't progressed more with that. He only sits with using his hands to prop on. He has a weak core (due to his spina bifida) and its going to take much longer than anticipated to for him to sit up all the way.

Brandon saw his urologist early April. His doctor checked his kidneys with a nuclear scan and he had a renal ultrasound. His kidney's look great and there doesn't appear to be any problems with not cathing Brandon. Brandon will be seeing his urologist again in July to do a bladder function test. We shall see if he will continue to not need cathing. I am always nervous for these tests. I have to admit it has been so nice not having to do any cathing, but with spina bifida that can change.

He has made progress with eating. He decided he didn't want anymore baby food/baby cereal. He tried and tasted lots of new regular foods during his 16 month. He is still on the bottle, but he isn't drinking as much milk as he used to. We started trying him on the honey bear cup with a straw. He does ok but has some spillage as he drinks.

We finally saw the ENT in April. Dr. Albright said his tonsils were big (size 3) and thought it was best to get a sleep study first before taking the tonsils out. He wanted to rule out central sleep apnea. Sleep study was scheduled for mid May.

Our little boy sure is growing up. He is making progress and we are thankful. Love this boy!!!
I miss those days when I could write in my blog often. Oh well a busy life can be good, but I do wish it could slow down some and I could go on vacation to get a break.

So here are the pictures we quickly took after church on Easter Sunday. Our Easter was low key. Rachel and Haley didn't get to do an Easter egg hunt because our neighborhood egg hunt was on a Sunday (we don't do stuff like that on Sunday's). Kayla had a preschool egg hunt a couple of days before Easter. I took pictures of that using my phone, but I just don't have the time to transfer those pics to my blog. So Easter came and went fast, but most important I am thankful for my Savior and all that he sacrificed for me.
We found a small spot on private property in Pearland, TX. The owners of the property were ok with people taking pictures in the bluebonnets. This year has been a terrible year with the bluebonnets. There's just not as many spots/locations of bluebonnets this year. I think the warmer winter in Houston didn't help at all. So here are our pictures this year! I'm glad I was able to get them. I have gotten pictures of my kids in the bluebonnets for 6 years in a row!
The big news for this month is he is sitting up almost on his own! I got some pics of him sitting up at a local park. These are the first pictures of him sitting up on his own. He is still not 100% perfect at sitting up on his own, but he is slowly but surely getting there. We are closer than we were. So I am so happy about that!

Brandon had his 15 month check up. It was discovered that Brandon has large tonsils (size 3). We have to see the ENT to determine the next steps for this. Brandon has been having sleep apnea episodes and some snoring so we figured that his tonsils were big. Rachel and Haley had to have their tonsils and adenoids taken out so I know Brandon will be going down that road too. Poor boy! Brandon also has seasonal allergies though it's not bothering him too much.

His 15 month stats at his check up:

Weight: 20 lbs, 10 oz (23 %ile)
Length: 29.5 inches (5 %ile)
Wt/Lt: 48 %ile
Head circumference: they took it but didn't write it down for me.

Brandon is a shorty like Haley and Kayla. Rachel is my only average to tall kid. As big as Brandon was when he was born, I thought for sure he was going to be more on the average/bigger/taller side, but I was wrong. That's okay, he's great just as he is. His smaller size is NOT stopping him from getting around. He is crawling around everywhere! He's still army crawling, but attempting to get up on all fours.

Brandon is eating well. He likes his food! He likes his baby cereal still as well as those Gerber puffs and other Gerber snacks. He doesn't like the yogurt drops at all. We are introducing more textures and foods. He's doing well in this area! We are trying to get him off the bottle, but Brandon is not interested in a sippy cup. Will continue to work on this issue.

Brandon is still not talking or saying any words besides "ma, ma". We are in the process of getting a speech therapist to come evaluate him to see if any intervention is needed.

He continues to sleep well at night though some nights he will cry a couple of times. One of us will go in and comfort him and he will go back to sleep. Most likely he wakes up due to his sleep apnea.

Brandon is a social little boy. He likes to be talked to and he will wave Hi/bye when someone waves to him. We are so blessed to have him in our family.
