Rescheduled

Haley won't be having her surgery tomorrow after all. The doctor decided to check her bowels with barium to check for any strictures or obstructions. Well they did find a couple more obstructions. The MD's seem to think it's a little scar tissue from the previous surgery, but they are not completely sure. They decided to reschedule the surgery to next Thursday (December 17) since Haley did have a recent central line infection. The doctor wanted to give another week of antibiotics to get that infection completely clear. So we continue to wait again. We hope that this finding of more obstruction is not serious and will be able to be fixed during her surgery next week.
Rachel is doing good. Nothing new with her. She is completely recovered after her bronchoscopy. We are not having to make a decision soon about the trach, fundo/g-tube until Rachel gets bigger. When she does get bigger she may not even need these things. We hope and pray that her rate of growth will increase and she will out grow her tracheomalacia (floppy airway). So we continue to wait with her as well. We love our little girls so very much and are so blessed to have them. We hope that these challenges they are facing will soon come to pass and they will be able to move forward.

  1. I was talking about your girls to some friends at church tonight during the Young Women's in Excellence we had. Just know a ward in Harrisonburg, VA is praying for a non-floppy airway, healed eyes, good hearing and an infection that is over. We will also be praying for good surgery results next week. I am so excited to see these sweet princesses doing so well. I am also amazed at their amazing mommy.

  3. Amanda,

All I can say is that I'm praying for your family everyday! Your faith continues to amaze me. We recently went through the NICU journey, but not nearly to the extent that you are. There were days that I completely questioned my faith and everything surrounding it! You continue to inspire me! I pray everyday for your little girls and wish nothing more than for you and your husband to experience a normal life with your girls! Big hug to you all!!

  8. I am praying for your sweet girls! What miracles they are. I will pray that as they grow they will grow out of many of the problems they are fighting now. I can only imagine how you long for them to be home after 4 months. It sounds like they are in excellent hands though!

  9. Maybe they'll be able to remove the scar tissue when they reconnect the intestines. I'm glad to hear they found the scar tissue now. They may be able to remove that scarred section of the intestines and just put back the healthy parts. I think I had posted previously that my (23-wker) daughter's ostomy was closed then popped back open because there had been scar tissue left on the intestines. We ended up taking her home with the ostomy and having to readmit her to the hospital 3 months later to have it closed. I'm glad you will not suffer this experience!

  10. I know I don't comment much, but I check in pretty much daily. I'm glad to see the girls getting bigger and overcoming the obstacles that they have. I'll continue to keep them in my prayers. I'm thankful they are holding off on the surgery to be sure that infection is gone. Wise decision!

Cayden had an obstruction/stricture after his ostomy was performed so they had to fix that when they reconnected him too. He did great with that surgery. He also had tracheomalacia and thankfully, it wasn't bad and corrected within a couple of weeks. He couldn't go with a lower pressure setting on his CPAP for a bit.

I'm sure both girls will come through these hurdles with flying colors! They are so strong and are fighting so hard. In all the chaos that NICU brings, don't forget to take care of you too!
