Update - New challenges

Well it has been hectic the past couple of days for both girls. Haley was admitted to the hospital late last night. We took her to the pediatrician after we noticed that her abdomen was looking distended and her lips would turn blue/purple whenever she cried. She just wasn't looking good. The pediatrician told us to take her to the ER at Texas Children's Hospital. In the ER, she was placed on oxygen as her oxygen saturation's were in the high 70's. Oxygen sats should be in the 90's-100%. Haley also gained 1 pound in 1 week which is not good. She was obviously retaining some fluid. She was admitted to NICU level 2 for tests and to figure out what is going on. We hope to get more of an answer today. We will keep everyone updated as we get further details.
Rachel is also having a problem. It was found that her incision site from her fundo/g-tube are infected with Staph. The doctor did blood cultures and so far her blood is infection free. We are so happy about that. It's just her skin around her g-tube and incision that is infected. She is on antibiotics and doing well otherwise.
We appreciate very much all the prayers on our girls behalf. We are so grateful for everyone and all the positive comments. We continue to pray and rely on the Lord to help Rachel and Haley get through this challenging time and we continue to be grateful for all of our blessings. We love our girls!

  2. Oh I am so sorry to hear that Haley is back in the NICU. That happened to one of my triplets...we had him home for a few days but then he had to be readmitted. Thankfully our 2nd stay was only about a week. I know how heartbreaking that is though to have them all to yourself and then have to give them back :(

Praying for you and the girls!

  5. I have been a long time follower of your blog. I am sorry to hear that Haley had to be re-admitted. Hang in there. I am sure it has been so neat to have her home. I will be praying for you and your girls. It is wonderful to see how far they have come. The Lord will continue to help and bless your sweet girls. Take this time to catch up a little on all the lost sleep. When you have them both home it will be so wonderful but so busy too.

  9. Oh how sad that Haley is back in the hospital. Poor Rachel with Staph. I am sure the doctors and nurses are taking great care of her especially with this serious infection at her gtube. Hang in there...things will get better.

  18. I have followed your precious children's journeys since birth and have been amazed by their strength and innocent ability to transcend these obstacles.
I am a mother to a 29 weeker (now 21 mos actual and doing excellent) who was in the NICU for 7 months (he also came home with tons of medical care). Only 8 days after discharge, he was readmitted! I felt so defeated and almost embarrassed. I even hard a hard time visiting our "family" in the NICU during that hospitalization because I felt like I couldn't even care for him as his mother (even though his subsequent infection had nothing to do with my care).
My heart completely goes out to you. Sometimes these preemie hurdles/gigantic mountains can seem never-ending and are so unfair to everyone involved. You have done such a wonderful job being the girls' cheerleaders even when I am sure you are struggling for strength for yourself. As always, I am sending you tons of strength and positive healing your way.

  27. I understand your stress, please don't be discouraged. My son was born 520 grams, 11 inches, 18 weeks premature, in 1995. He was hospitalized for 6 months. Once discharged he was readmitted multiple times for various reasons and surgeries. It is not uncommon. He is now 13 years old and a 7th grader in middle school. Hang in there, the roller coaster continues in other ways. Remember, you have gotten over the biggest hurdles, the rest are bunny hills. Best wishes to all of you.
