Kayla is 8 Months Old!

My little Kayla is another month older.  She is growing up on me so fast!  I love her so very much!

For her 8th month photo shoots, I moved her outdoors wearing tutu's made by my friend and I.  The chair she is sitting on was inspired by Pinterest.  I found a chair for $5 on Craigslist, cut the legs short and then spray painted it dark brown.  It's perfect for photo shoots!

Kayla is growing!  She weighs 15 lbs, 5 oz.  She is making so much developmental progress.  She is sitting up on her own.  She started that at 7 1/2 months.  She is combat crawling though she is starting to get up on all fours.  She can transition from sitting to combat crawling.  She is so interactive, alert and is interested in all that is going on around her.  She is a happy baby and loves attention from anyone.  She is so smiley and she really lights up when she is around her sisters.  She loves Rachel and Haley!

Combat crawling

Up on all fours (sort of)

Kayla is still not sleeping through the night.  I don't know if she is waking up in the middle of the night because of true hunger or if she has just made a habit of waking up to eat.  Of course I have a hard time not going to her to comfort and feed her.

Kayla is teething.  She has one bottom tooth that has erupted, but has not come out all the way yet.  She is showing her preference for what baby foods she likes and doesn't like.  She of course loves fruit, sweet potatoes and sweet carrots.  Kayla can pick up and feed herself Gerber Puffs.  She loves them!  Kayla was still having a lot of spitting up so I switched her formula and that seems to have helped along with her medication.

Feeding herself

The last picture is of Kayla wearing a dress that I wore when I was 7 months old.  I also took pictures of Rachel and Haley in this dress back in January 2011.  You can read that post HERE.

  3. I've been reading your blog since you were expecting the sextuplets and I love it. I love all the cute pictures you take and the updates you post. I can't believe how fast your adorable girls are growing. Thanks for keeping us posted. After a long day with my 7 kids (like today) I love to read your blog and I feel so uplifted. You have great attitudes and cherish every moment with your children. That inspires me to be better.
Anyway, I wanted to write about Kayla not sleeping through the night. My 6 month old was doing the same thing. We just went on a 2 month vacation and I would nurse her everytime she woke up. I know it was just her habit and she wouldn't break it for me. Last Saturday my husband got up with her for the first time. He kept giving her a paci or patting her back a little. Then he'd go back to bed only to have her cry again seconds later. He did it for 45 minutes and then she finally stayed asleep till morning. The next night she slept through the night! And she has since then. I've learned with my kids that it takes the non-feeding parent to go in there and either offer a paci or cup of water (if I'm trying to drop the early morning feeding) and then they stop waking up. They realize it's not going to get them what they wanted. Does that make sense? If you try to get her to sleep for 45 min to an hour and she won't go to sleep, then give in and feed her. Say she normally wakes up at 3. You finally give in and feed her at 4. The next night she will probably wake up at 4. You feed her at 4 for a couple of nights and then do the same thing again, offering her a paci, patting her back, letting her cry, whatever, for an hour. Then give in and feed her at 5. The next night she should wake up at 5. Keep doing this and soon she'll be sleeping till 7 or 8 or whatever time you want her to. It will take a week of poor sleep for you but soon she'll be sleeping through the night. Have you read "Families are Forever...If I Can Just Get Through Today" ? It's an older book my mom has; probably published in the 70's or 80's. It's about a mom who has a single birth, then twins, then twins, then triplets, then a single birth. They are all 2 years apart ad she has some great tips for things like getting babies to sleep through the night. That's where I got this from. Hope it helps! Moms need their sleep! I don't know how you do it. Keep up the good work!
